Peter is currently conductor of two large choral societies in Sheffield. The Sheffield University Singers' Society meets weekly during university term time and performs several concerts a year. Since taking the helm at "Singsoc" the choir has grown in number and performed many memorable concerts including Rossini's Petite Messe Solenelle, Haydn's Creation, Orff's Carmina Burana, Mozart's Requiem and Handel's Messiah. Over the last three years the choir has developed a policy of working directly with living composers whenever possible, and have been delighted to work with Andrew Carter on his Benedicite, David Fanshawe on his African Sanctus and most recently with Stuart Johnson on his Requiem. This year we are commissioning an original work for the first time and in May 2010 will give the world premiere performance of Robert Webb's new work for Chorus, Children's Choir and Orchestra.
Peter took over Hallam Choral Society in September 2004 and has worked hard with them to raise their profile as a choral force to be reckoned with in Sheffield. The choir's membership has risen from around 50 to over 80, and the choir is proud to count itself as one of the leading choral societies in South Yorkshire, performing a range of repertoire from Handel's Messiah to Britten's Rejoice in the Lamb and Horovitz's Horrortorio.
Peter is delighted to hear from choirs looking for guest conductors or people to run vocal workshops for their members. It is Peter's understanding of the voice that gives such good results in his choirs' performances.
Here's what some clients at one of Peter's singing workshops had to say:
“This workshop taught me more about the voice and how to control it in two hours than I have learned in all my years in a choir. And it was great fun.”
“The tutor was really friendly and I was really impressed with his ability to engage people of all ages and standards.”
“Brilliant! Peter was very clear and well-organised in his structure, and managed a disparate group very well.”
